Cosmetic Dentistry

In the past, most people didn’t consider cosmetic dentistry, believing that it was a luxury reserved only for the rich and famous. The good news is that cosmetic dentistry in Maroubra Junction, NSW is now available to fit many different budgets as well as smile desires.

If you have minor issues with your teeth, such as gaps, chips or discolouration, we can suggest treatment that is minimally invasive—and affordable for many different budgets. Cosmetic bonding and teeth whitening can treat minor issues that can provide a big improvement to your smile.

For more serious issues, we also offer treatment options:

  • Veneers. These tooth covers go over the fronts of the teeth that show when you smile. Veneers can camouflage many different issues with teeth, including gaps, teeth of different lengths or shapes, misaligned teeth or discoloured teeth that are resistant to teeth whitening.
  • Dental implants. Missing teeth not only interfere with the aesthetics of your smile, but it can also be challenging to chew or speak—and it can put the health of your remaining teeth at risk. Gaps in your smile that aren’t filled with a prosthetic usually cause your remaining teeth to start to shift to fill in the space. Dental implants provide a natural-looking, naturally functioning way to replace one or more missing teeth.
  • Orthodontics. It’s never too late to have straighter, healthier teeth, and we offer traditional orthodontics as well as clear braces.

Crowns and Bridges

There is no one “best” option for all of our patients, but there are certainly a number of options available. The important thing to remember that replacing one or more missing teeth is not just essential in terms of being able to chew and speak properly, but it can also protect you from further tooth loss.

When a tooth is missing and the gap left behind is not filled in with a replacement, the rest of the teeth in your mouth will tend to drift in order to fill in the empty spot. Over time, this will interfere with your bite and can cause your teeth to become worn down. Eventually, you might even lose more teeth.

Talk to our Maroubra Junction, NSW dental clinic about tooth replacement options, including:

  • Dental bridges: When you are missing a couple teeth that are adjacent to each other, a dental bridge can fill in the space—protecting your remaining teeth from shifting and restoring your ability to chew properly.
  • Partial or Full Dentures: This popular tooth replacement option is particularly useful for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth. For added stability, we can connect them to dental implants.
  • Dental implants: Widely considered the ‘gold standard’ of tooth replacement, dental implants take the place of your missing tooth root. Once a dental crown is attached, you have a tooth replacement that looks, functions and feels very much like your natural tooth.

General and Preventive Dentistry

Many people don’t realise the importance of preventive care when it comes to their dentistry. With check-ups and cleans every six months at our Maroubra Junction, NSW dental clinic, Dr Pertsoulis can help you maintain and improve your oral health. Routine examinations enable him to detect dental issues while they are still small and easier—and usually less expensive—to treat.

For example, if you skip routine dental check-ups, a tiny spot of tooth decay on your tooth won’t be noticed. Tooth decay doesn’t generally come with any symptoms while still in the early stages. But left untreated, a small spot of tooth decay often continues to grow. If you put off routine dental care, that small bit of tooth decay can get bigger, ultimately letting bacteria into the tooth root. Suddenly, you have an unbearable toothache that sends you in for an emergency dental appointment. You might be upset to learn that now you need a root canal. A preventive care examination might have prevented the need for this more invasive treatment.

It might make sense to save your money and skip dental visits, but in the end, you might spend more of your hard-earned money—and you might spend more time in the dental chair.

Orthodontics

At Maroubra Family Dental, we believe you are never too old for a straighter smile. What most people don’t realise is that having straight teeth is about more than just having a pleasing smile. Teeth that are properly aligned are often easier to take care of because they are easier to brush and floss thoroughly.

We offer traditional wire-and-bracket metal braces and clear ceramic braces, which can resolve most orthodontic problems on children, teens and adults. We assess children at a young age—usually around seven—to determine whether an interceptive device today can stave off more complex orthodontic treatment later.

We understand, however, that many adults are not interested in a mouth full of metal when they are attending board meetings or job interview. To that end, we offer Invisalign clear braces, which fit in well with most adult lifestyles. Whether you missed out on braces when you were younger, or if you have experienced orthodontic relapse as an adult, Invisalign provides a discreet yet effective way to straighten teeth.

Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners that gently move the teeth into the desired position. The clear plastic aligners are barely noticeable, so people don’t have to feel self-conscious while they are straightening their teeth.

Periodontal Treatment

The only way to know for sure that your gums are healthy is with a dental check-up. In fact, gum health is one of the main reasons we recommend visiting your Maroubra Junction, NSW every six months for check-ups and cleans.

Gum disease is an insidious condition that often sneaks up on people with no symptoms—until the disease has become more serious. In its earliest stages, we can often reverse gum disease with a deep cleaning. Once it has progressed, however, many times the best we can expect is to manage the disease.

Signs you might have gum disease include:

  • Blood in the sink after brushing and flossing
  • Gums that feel tender and look swollen
  • Teeth that suddenly develop an elongated look as the infected gum tissue pulls away
  • Pockets of pus around the gum line

In its later stages, you might notice some of your teeth feel loose—and you might even start to lose teeth. In fact, many people don’t realize that gum disease is responsible for many adults who lose their teeth.

The best way to protect the gums—as well as your overall oral health—is to see your dentist for routine check-ups and cleans. We invite you to contact our Maroubra Junction, NSW dental clinic to arrange an appointment.
