Children's Dentistry
When you are seeking a children’s dentist in Maroubra Junction, NSW, you want to feel confident you are putting their needs into the hands of a dental clinic you know and trust.
We enjoy treating children at Maroubra Family Dental, and we recommend you bring them in for their first dental appointment around the age of two and a half. At this age, kids are old enough to have an understanding of what seeing the dentist is all about.
Our goal is to establish a good relationship between your child and the dentist from an early age; this helps avoid dental anxiety from developing in the future. Dr Pertsoulis and his team will only provide treatment with which your child is completely comfortable and which is age-appropriate.
Regular dental check-ups give us valuable information on how your child’s oral development is unfolding. It also enables us to provide early intervention, which can help reduce the necessity for orthodontics later on.
These are the areas we’ll focus on while your child is here:
Proper Oral Hygiene and Appropriate Development
Young children don’t have the dexterity to properly brush and floss, so it’s up to mums and dads to supervise teeth cleaning. We recommend making it a fun, family affair, brushing and flossing alongside your kids. If you have any questions about helping your child establish good oral health habits, our friendly team is happy to answer them.
Older kids can benefit from our hygienist going over proper brushing and flossing technique to help them do it correctly by themselves.
Oral examinations will consist of a visual examination to look for potential dental issues, such as tooth decay. Dr Pertsoulis might recommend digital x-rays if he has any concerns about the development of teeth that have not yet erupted.
If your child is comfortable with it, our hygienist will thoroughly clean the teeth.
Preventive Treatments
Some kids are more prone to developing cavities than others, but most can benefit from preventive treatments such as dental sealants and fluoride. Sealants are applied to the back molars to seal in the deep crevices that can develop tooth decay.
Speech Patterns and Bad Habits
When a habit such as thumb-sucking is impacting not only the development of the teeth but the way your child speaks, it might be time for interceptive treatment. Dr Pertsoulis can examine your child to determine what might be necessary today to reduce the need for further treatment tomorrow.
In addition to interceptive treatment, we offer a full range of orthodontics, including traditional metal braces and Invisalign clear braces.
